A vacuum may pick up less dirt during cleaning. This does not prove that it is broken or has reached the end of its life. Check the dust container and battery using the manual. Then decide whether to continue or contact a retailer.
This guide covers the Makita CL107FD and CL108FD only. Check the model on your own vacuum. If it is different, use its own manual. Do not copy these steps to another model.
Stop using it if you notice an abnormal sign
If the vacuum smells unusual, becomes hot, makes an unusual sound or behaves abnormally, switch it off and stop using it. The manuals say to ask a retailer or Makita service office to inspect or repair it. Do not keep running it to test the problem, and do not open the body.
If none of these signs is present and suction only feels weak, continue with the checks for your model.
Record the model and dust collection type
Write down the model number, whether it uses a bag or capsule, what feels different, when the problem began, and any visible condition such as a full bag or low battery. Note damage, water exposure, heat, smell or unusual sound. Stop using the vacuum if you see an abnormal sign. If you cannot identify the model, do not take it apart; ask a retailer to identify it.
CL107FD: check the reusable bag and disposable paper bag
Switch off the vacuum and remove the battery before care. The manual says to check whether the dust bag or paper bag is full or clogged, whether the reusable dust bag is clogged, and whether the battery is depleted. Replace a full or clogged paper bag; do not wash or reuse it. A reusable dust bag may be washed with soapy water when dirt has reduced suction. Dry it fully before reinstalling. The sponge filter may also be washed; dry it fully and reinstall it correctly. Do not use a torn filter or bag.
CL108FD: check the capsule and filters
Switch off and remove the battery. Empty the capsule and check the filters for dirt, damage and correct placement. The manual gives care instructions for the standard filter, pre-filter and sponge filter. Wash only the parts the manual permits, using its method, and let them dry completely. Do not wash the body or assume every filter type has the same installation steps. Check the model and filter version before ordering a replacement.
What to do after the checks
If suction returns after the manual's cleaning steps, put all parts back as shown. If suction does not return, a part is damaged, or the battery behaves abnormally, stop and ask a retailer or Makita service office. Do not guess the cause or buy a replacement part based only on appearance.
Do not do these things
Do not use a damaged filter, run the vacuum without its filter, wash a disposable paper bag, or use wet parts. Do not open the body or continue using a vacuum with an abnormal smell, heat or sound. This guide does not measure suction, cleaning results, battery life or repair costs. Follow the manual for the exact model.
