A clamp lamp attaches to the edge of a desk. The clamp may not fit if the top is too thick, a modesty panel or drawer is in the way, or there is too little room below the edge. Measure both the desk and the lamp's mounting limits before choosing it.
Measure the desk edge first
Measure the top's thickness where you plan to attach the lamp. Also measure the open space below the edge. If a modesty panel, drawer, or support rail sits directly underneath, check the height and depth available for the clamp. If the desk is close to a wall, make sure there is enough room to insert the clamp.
Check more than one spot near the intended position. A rounded or sloped edge, or a reinforcing frame, may keep the clamp from sitting flat even when the top has the same thickness. If the manual recommends a protective pad, check that requirement too.
Compare the mounting limits with your measurements
As a specification example, this guide uses the Iris Ohyama LED Desk Light T Type, clamp model LDL-TCDL-B. Its manual says to attach it to a level surface, with a desk top no more than 40 mm thick and at least 50 mm of edge clearance. Here, edge clearance means the open space below the edge where the clamp must fit. Measure thickness and clearance separately.
- Measure the desk thickness at the intended mounting spot.
- Check for at least 50 mm of open space below the edge and make sure a panel or drawer will not block the clamp.
- Check that the surface is level and has no large curve, slope, or step where the clamp will touch it.
- Even when the 40 mm and 50 mm limits are met, compare the desk edge with the clamp diagram in the manual.
If the top is thicker than 40 mm, the clearance is less than 50 mm, or the clamp hits a panel or drawer, do not assume this model will fit. Consider another mounting method or ask the manufacturer about your desk shape. If you cannot move the lamp to a spot that meets the limits, skip this model.
Check the light separately from the clamp
Being able to attach a lamp does not mean its light will suit your work. Product dimensions and the manual's recommended position or illuminance conditions cannot tell you whether paper will be easy to read at your desk or whether your screen will reflect the light. Do not rush to buy if the work area is not illuminated as needed or the arm would interfere with your hands or monitor.
If the model and mounting limits suit your desk, you can check the LDL-TCDL-B listing at E-Trend Rakuten Market. Check the model, current price, stock, shipping, and return terms on the listing before ordering. If you cannot confirm your desk measurements or mounting position, skip the product and do not buy it.
This guide explains how to compare desk measurements with the manual. It does not report a test fit on an actual desk, personal use, or the reader's lighting conditions.
