Will the dishwasher drain hose reach? Check the NP-TCR5 route

Use the Panasonic NP-TCR5 as an example to check drain-hose length, bends, height, and sink-side fastening before buying. If the route does not fit, confirm compatible parts with the seller instead of guessing.

A countertop dishwasher needs more than a place to sit. Its drain hose must reach the drain, avoid sharp bends, and stay within the model's height limits.

This guide uses the Panasonic NP-TCR5 to show how to check the drain route before buying. The earlier small-kitchen dishwasher guide covers placement, the faucet, and dish capacity. This page focuses on tracing and measuring the drain hose.

Draw the hose route first

The NP-TCR5 comes with a drain hose about 1 m long. Measure along the route the hose would actually take from the appliance's drain outlet to the sink, rather than measuring a straight line. Mark corners and places where a door or drawer could pinch the hose. Official NP-TCR5 specifications

Check in this order:

  1. Mark the intended position and orientation of the appliance.
  2. Sketch the route from its drain outlet to the sink.
  3. Measure along that route and check whether the roughly 1 m hose can reach.
  4. Look for corners where the hose could be crushed, sharply bent, or coiled.
  5. Check that the supplied suction cup can hold the hose securely at the sink.

Do not rely on a route that pulls the hose tight when you close a door. A route that looks long enough can fall short once bends and a safe fastening point are included.

Check the height and bends

The NP-TCR5 manual lists a bent or coiled drain hose and a hose raised 20 cm or more among the checks for a drainage error. The installation inspection repeats these conditions. When sketching the route, mark any point where the hose would rise over a cabinet edge and check its height. NP-TCR5 operating guide

The manual also explains how to secure the drain hose with the suction cup and trim excess length. You do not need to cut or install a hose before deciding whether the route works. Follow the model's instructions for installation, and ask the seller or a plumbing professional if you are unsure. NP-TCR5 operating guide and Panasonic installation instructions

Do not buy an extension hose by appearance

If the hose cannot reach, a similar-looking extension may not fit your model. Panasonic says to use a separate hose when the supplied hose is too short, but compatibility depends on the part. The available information here does not establish that a particular extension fits the NP-TCR5. Ask Panasonic or the seller to confirm compatibility using the model number before buying. What you find What to do
It reaches within about 1 m, has no bend or coil, is not raised 20 cm or more, and can be secured at the sink Consider it only after checking the other installation requirements
It cannot reach, must bend sharply, rises 20 cm or more, or has no secure point at the sink Pause the purchase and ask the manufacturer or seller using the model number and route sketch
You cannot confirm an extension part or its installation method Do not guess; ask whether it is compatible with the NP-TCR5

This article cannot determine the measurements in your kitchen, the shape of your drain, or interference with your actual doors and drawers. If the sketch leaves any condition unclear, ask before installation. If the route cannot meet the requirements, continuing to hand-wash is a reasonable choice.
